Common Manufacturing Materials and Selection Principles of Automotive Molds
The selection of materials for automotive molds shall be determined comprehensively according to production frequency, processing materials and working conditions. Common steel materials are divided into cold working die steel, hot working die steel and plastic die steel. Cold working steel is suitable for normal-temperature sheet stamping molds with good hardness and impact resistance. Hot working steel is used for high-temperature die-casting and hot forging molds, which can resist deformation pressure caused by long-term repeated high-temperature operation. Plastic die steel has fine surface finish, suitable for the production of automotive exterior plastic parts. Auxiliary parts such as guide pins, guide sleeves, thimbles and inserts adopt matching materials. Manufacturers select materials according to production volume, forming difficulty and surface process requirements, so as to control production cost and improve mold service life and product forming stability.
